I am going to buy the lenses from TRS, which provides an option to include a spacer kit, which I am going to get. One video I watched included removing the top of a secondary shield which diffuses light on the lower end of the cut-off for oncoming traffic, is it common to always remove this? Has anyone done this swap on a BRZ that can provide some input on what you did?

Most lens holders have some gap for the lens to wiggle a fraction of a millimeter before tightening the lens mounting. January 21st,AM. By "DIY flange", I mean having a metal plate that you can bolt the projector's flange onto, and have that metal plate be affixed to a solid object like a table.
Not quite like the S but still very good in its own right, no? January 21st,PM. So it doesn't have to be metal, just some type of base to secure the projector to, to allow for tuning? The BRZ has RX bi-xenon projectors which are considered good but the factory lens is fresnel or whatever and does not provide a crisp cut-off.
I recently bought some Osram CBB bulbs and am having a hard time getting the alignment right because the cut-off is pretty fuzzy, and I cant find a white wall with 25ft distance from car to wall.Turtle Wax Headlight Lens Restorer Review
Yes, that's what I meant. An L-bracket would be relatively easy to find from a hardware store; hence my implying for metal plate. Easy to drill, easy to bend to shape. Wood etc. But otherwise, sure, no need for metal. I'm not sure how it is in all OE ballasts, some have specific connectors, others are similar to used in aftermarket ballasts. I agree that having a non-clear lens makes finding the centerline of the optics harder.
But it doesn't mean that the beam pattern is inferior to an equivalent projector with clear lens; it is just not as pretty on the wall compared to clear lensed-projector with maximized colorband. It was a beautiful thing. The vehicle was a Subaru BRZ and we pretty much threw everything you put inside headlights at these things. Now for the real brain bender: getting that Morimoto Matchbox Projector into the turn signal location!
It took a lot of gentle alignment, adjustment, cutting, plastic welding, fabbing, crying, and laughter… but it got done! So it came back apart, got masked, painted with flat black, and reassembled. All in the details! Purchasing a new set of housings was cost-prohibitive for this car so we gotta work with what we got! First, a closeup of all the damage. Then, sanded down to try and level it off a bit and promote clear coat adhesion.
Then automotive clear coat for the protection! Since all of the wiring for these headlights was available right on the headlight itself, I pre-wired everything for the client. Moar powah!

I was in the process of baking my headlights in order to close them, and apparently, the lens rolled over and made contact with the oven grill, creating 2 small, straight indentations on my left headlight lens.
The rest of the headlight is completely fine and honestly, it's barely noticeable but I'd like to see how much a replacement lens cost, since it's just plastic. Last edited by raul; at AM. You will have to call Toyota on that one.
They usually will sell just the lense but it's sadly going to be a ridiculous price. And what's weird is the price for a complete replacement headlight with bulbs included at times is only a few dollars off the price of just the lense. It will definitely be a ridiculous price, and it will probably come with a free reflector housing attached. I guess they charge you for the entire thing, and for the labor of splitting them open and giving you the lens.

Regarding the jdm leveling, you don't necessarily need the leveling module. If the lights don't receive a signal, they default to "0".
So unless you plan on putting some heavy stuff in the back, you'll probably be fine. For one housing? Maybe I should put mine up for sale currently using the jdm housings.
Thread Tools. Interior Parts Incl. All times are GMT Headlight fogging occurs for exactly the same reasons as condensation on windows — everyone knows about it but no one is alarmed when that happens! Car windows mist up when the temperature of the outside air is cooler than that on the inside, and this typically happens in cooler and damper periods of the year. Headlights are no different: a film of condensation builds up on the inside of the lens due to precisely the same climatic conditions.
Experts call it fogging. There is a similar — but unfortunately less effective — way of alleviating the headlight problem. Because the warmth emitted by the headlight lamps has a similar defogging effect to the warm air from the fan, driving with the lights on helps to avoid build-up of condensation.
Modern light sources, however, generate less heat than halogen lamps and incandescent lights: Xenon headlights, for example, have a greater tendency to fog up than those using halogen lamps.
The problem of fogging is one that headlight designers have grappled with for years. A compounding factor is that headlights are becoming increasingly larger and therefore contain more interior air.
This air heats up while the car is being driven — due to the warmth of the lamps and the heat from the engine. Almost all modern headlights have a ventilation system that prevents a build-up of pressure by displacing this hot air, and this system is carefully designed to allow no direct ingress of water into the headlight housing. However, in line with normal physical laws, air from outside is sucked back into the headlight interior when the inside air cools down again.
If this outside air is humid, due to the prevailing weather conditions, condensation forms on the inside of the cover lens. Fogging disappears of its own accord after the headlights are switched on. Designers seek to accelerate this demisting process by diverting the residual heat from lamps or control gear through the headlight housing.
Despite all these efforts, not enough dry air is able to reach the farthest corners of the housing, and this is where condensation persists the longest. How long it actually takes until the lens is completely clear depends on the current weather conditions and level of humidity. When a vehicle is stationary, it takes even longer — and warmer weather — before the condensation finally disappears.
In many cases, daytime running lights have made the fogging situation even worse. When trying to prevent fogging, it therefore makes sense to drive with your low beam headlights on instead of your daytime running light s, as more drivers tend to do in the fall and winter seasons anyway.
A bit more? Off-road and highway driving place different requirements on headlights.Morimoto's unbeatable XB LED fog lights have been top sellers in our catalog forever, and we couldn't be more excited to see the lineup expand with offerings such as the new high-performance XB LED headlights.
Compatible: With all BRZ and FR-S models fromthese complete assemblies will swap directly in place of the original housings, use all of the stock mounting points, and should only take around minutes to install. Review Video: Check out the installation, functions, and performance of these lights in this awesome video.
Plug n Play: Wiring is easy too! Though they're LED, these are designed to work without any special wiring. They will plug into the factory connectors for the stock lights and each assembly includes all necessary connectors, rubber seals, and pigtails for a plug n play install.
No additional resistors, modules, etc needed! Style: Their geometry flows perfectly with the lines of the front end just like the original units - but that's where the similarities stop. The smoked lens is slightly more aggressive, the LED powered optics are far brighter, and the sequential functionality looks sick.
Bang for the buck, these are such an awesome way to modernize the lighting setup on your Scion. Well-Built: Their durable polycarbonate lens will resist the test of time, keeping the housings looking new for many years to come. The injection molded ABS housing is light-weight and much stronger than comparable cheap alternatives.
